The Laws of Destiny: Reincarnation, Karma and the Life Between Death and Rebirth

The Karma Path
Destiny is not a decree handed down from outside; it is woven, thread by thread, across many earth-lives. This path follows that weaving. It begins with Reincarnation and Karma, where Steiner asks how a modern person, schooled in the sciences, can still come to know the eternal human being who returns again and again to the Earth. From there it turns to Manifestations of Karma, watching how the law shows itself in illness, in accident, in the very shape of a biography. You will then cross the threshold of death itself, following Between Death and Rebirth through the wide spiritual world the soul traverses before it seeks a new body. At the far end stand the Karmic Relationships lectures, where individual destinies gather into the great streams of history. This path is for the reader who senses that a single life is too small to hold the whole meaning of a human being, and who wishes to think that intuition through with rigor rather than sentiment. Wander freely here. These are doors set slightly ajar, not a syllabus; enter whichever one calls to you, and leave when you wish.
  1. 1Study Guide · GA 135Reincarnation and Karma

Begin here. These five lectures ask how a modern, science-trained mind can genuinely know the eternal self that passes through many lives. They lay the ground everything else rests upon.

  2. 2Study Guide · GA 120Manifestations of Karma

Having accepted repeated lives, watch karma at work. Steiner shows the law living in a body that falls ill, an accident that looks random, even in the difference between the sexes.

  3. 3Glossary TermsKarma, Death & Rebirth

Pause to gather your terms. This glossary defines the core vocabulary of continuity, cause and effect, and the I that persists, so the harder lectures ahead read clearly.

  4. 4Study Guide · GA 141Between Death and Rebirth

Now cross the threshold. Steiner describes the soul's long passage through the spiritual world after death, and how the deeds of one life prepare the destiny of the next.

  5. 5Glossary TermsThe Soul's Journey After Death

A companion map for that passage. These twenty-eight terms trace the soul's movement through the planetary spheres, from the first life review outward and then toward rebirth.

  6. 6Study Guide · GA 235Karmic Relationships I

Here individual destinies widen into history. Steiner follows karmic ties across centuries, showing how souls meet, part, and meet again within the great streams of humanity.

  7. 7Glossary TermsLucifer, Ahriman & the Adversaries

Close by meeting the two adversarial powers that pull at every biography. Understanding Lucifer and Ahriman clarifies why destiny asks of us a continual work of balance.

A path is a set of doors, never a syllabus. Wander freely. See all Study Paths, the GA Work Library, or the Anthroposophical Glossary.
